Intelligence at device level accelerates digital transformation

Intelligence is increasingly entering the physical world. Driven by the shift from pure inference towards on-device training and continuous, adaptive learning, demand for edge AI will continue to grow strongly in 2026. Computing power is becoming more distributed and embedded directly into on-site systems and individual devices. This enables efficiency gains and real-time insights into products, infrastructure and supply chains.

Connectivity across devices and systems is essential

With the global number of IoT and embedded devices continuing to rise rapidly, interoperability is becoming a decisive factor. As a result, universal connectivity standards are increasingly required – not only for networks such as 5G or LPWAN, but also for interaction between devices and between devices and the cloud. This includes standardised communication protocols, consistent security practices, API interoperability and open architectures that allow intelligent devices to function seamlessly across vendors and platforms. Security is no longer optional due to regulations such as the Cyber Resilience Act – threat modelling and secure boot processes are becoming standard.

Sustainable design is more than a “nice-to-have“

Sustainability is no longer a buzzword, but a responsibility. As more and more devices are deployed in homes, factories, cities and remote environments, energy efficiency and sustainable design are moving to the centre of embedded development. This includes energy-optimised firmware, dynamic power management, energy harvesting, the use of energy-efficient MCUs and SoCs, and longer device lifecycles.
